(Facilitator: Marisha (Mishy) Leiblum) The Free Higher Education campaign calls for full federal funding for tuition and fees for all students at public colleges and universities. The basic and simple idea behind the campaign is that post-secondary education, like primary and secondary education, should be a basic social right. The cost of attendance for students enrolled in public postsecondary institutions in 2001 was roughly $32 billion - an amount that could easily be covered by redirecting tax cuts for the wealthy. Students, unions, and community members are working on the FHE campaign in roughly a dozen states across the US.
