Bank Tenant Association Organizing Manual
Description
The approach we ultimately designed—which
we call the Bank Tenant Association (BTA)
Organizing Model—is a product of more than
three decades of successful grassroots housing
organizing. It incorporates the movementbuilding
strategies we have been developing
since our start: getting out in the community
to get the message out; holding meetings that
build solidarity; providing access to lawyers;
organizing bold and creative protests that apply
public pressure and attract media attention—
and most importantly, cultivating leadership
development that puts the bank tenants
themselves in charge of demanding and building
a more just system.
