Starting Date: 03-14-2005 Starting Time: 8:00am Yonkers City Hall 40 South Broadway Yonkers, New York 10708 United States 914-395-2573Day Labor is an international phenomenon. In the United States, day laborers frequently work without employee benefits and are victims of employer negligence and lost or refused wages. In Yonkers, day laborers wait for work every day at the busy intersection of Yonkers and Midland Avenue, where they are harassed by police officers and store owners.
The day laborers of Yonkers are asking the Yonkers City Council and Mayor Phil Amicone to recognize their rights as workers, members of the community, and human beings, and to take an active role in establishing a designated hiring site. So far the city has shown little interest in doing anything to assist the day laborers.
A demonstration in front of Yonkers City Hall has been scheduled for Monday March 14th from 8-11 am to show the Yonkers government that this is an issue that needs to be dealt with now.
Please come and give your support to the Yonkers day laborers as they fight for the safety and equality that are the rights of every worker in America.
