This fall, young people from across the Great Lakes State will join together for three days to participate in a series of panels and workshops, community hands-on green & sustainability projects, hear from great speakers, attend two amazing concerts, and participate in a march for green jobs and a new economy and rally at the State Capitol Building in Lansing, Michigan – Power Shift Michigan 2009.
Building off the monumental successes of Power Shift 2007 and the Power Vote campaign and the Power Shift 2009 National Summit, Power Shift Michigan will bring together over 1,000 activists from all backgrounds working to bring about a better future. The conference, planned by student leaders, Powershift Michigan staff and coalition partners, will engage attendees in three days of workshops, panel discussions, trainings and direct action activities.
All over the country, the movement to address climate change, to promote clean energy and to create green jobs has never been stronger. Young people have been at the forefront of this movement, three hundred thousand of whom signed a pledge stating these issues were top factors in deciding their vote this past election cycle. But, now that the election is over, young people need to strive for a better energy future by holding elected officials accountable.
Power Shift Michigan 2009 takes place from October 9th – October 11th, 2009 at the Lansing Center in Downtown Lansing, Michigan. 1,000 high school and college students, recent graduates, and young activists will converge in the Capitol City with one goal – creating, promoting and building a green economy in Michigan.
