Former child soldier, journalist and political leader Chernoh Alpha
M. Bah will join Uhuru Movement leaders Omavi Bailey and Diop
Olugbala at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 6th for a "report from the frontlines of the African liberation struggle".
At the age of 12, Bah fought in the civil war in Sierra Leone, going
on to become an award winning journalist. He is now leader of the
Africanist Movement, whose 70,000 members in Sierra Leone, Guinea-
Conakry, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Liberia seek to regain African
indigenous control over African mineral and agricultural resources.
Tensions are mounting in Sierra Leone with the approaching elections.
While the ruling Sierra Leone People's Party grants lucrative mining concessions to foreign companies to finance their electoral
campaigns, the average life span of the population remains at 37 and
most citizens have no electricity or clean water. Some analysts
predict another war will break out over control of the diamond-rich
region.
In his Philadelphia address, Bah will report on the roles of foreign
governments and corporations in the conflict and present his
organization's program for the nationalization of mining industries
and democratization of the country. (For more on Chernoh Alpha M.

Bah will share the platform at the First Unitarian Church with Uhuru
Movement leaders Omavi Bailey and Diop Olugbala. They will address
current world events and the campaign for the unification of Africa
into a single nation.
Drawing from the work of the United Negro Improvement Association's
Marcus Garvey, Ghana's first President Kwame Nkrumah, and the Congo's
slain leader Patrice Lumumba, the Uhuru Movement is building an
international movement claiming Africa's resources as the birthright
of African people everywhere.
The June 6th event is free and open to the public. The program begins
at 7:30 p.m. with culture. The First Unitarian Church is located at
2125 Chestnut Avenue in Center City, Philadelphia. For more
