Solidarity Network will:
Discuss the leadership of women in constructing autonomy in
fair trade cooperatives.
Discuss threats to indigenous communities and small farmers
in Mexico created by the implementation of NAFTA and the
corn and coffee crises in Mexico.
Discuss the creation and history of the Zapatista movement
and the effects of the Zapatista rebellion on Chiapas and
specifically the women of Chiapas.
Fair Trade Cooperatives impart a fundamental space for women
through what has traditionally been unwaged work. Fair trade
cooperatives provide a space for women to engage in decision-making
and leadership roles, while organizing with other women.
Fair Trade allows community cooperatives to raise money to
improve living conditions for their communities, control
the production and marketing of products, construct a just
economy in which women can be central participants, and
