610-566-0156The Design Science Lab offers a unique opportunity to develop solutions to global and local problems. It features hands-on training experience in complex problem solving employing an approach pioneered by Buckminster Fuller and others called comprehensive anticipatory design science.
Using the United Nations Millennium Development Goals as a framework for exploring key interrelated global crises, the 10-day lab involves participants in the development of real-world solutions to the major challenges facing the planet. Using present day technology and known resources participants develop affordable solutions to local, regional and global problems. Working in teams, participants acquire a shared language and set of perceptual tools for complex-problem solving, enabling them to return to their communities equipped to take on their regions' most pressing concerns.
At its core, the Design Science Lab recognizes the profound contribution 'ordinary' citizens can make toward solving our most pressing local, regional and global problems. Through direct experience, participants come to understand that individual initiative can and indeed must make a difference in creating a better world.
A public presentation by Lab participants of their design strategies is made to the United Nations and the local community on the final day of the program.
