Description
Parkway Northwest High School for Peace and Social Justice, the first high school in the city of Philadelphia dedicated to the vision of peace in the community, will be holding a student run peace program on December 2nd, at 5PM. The first annual Hip Hop for Hope will be a synthesis of poetry, song, dance and theatre. It will allow the students of Parkway Northwest to express their views on the issue of violence in the community.

Parkway Northwest was rededicated as a peace high school this past September, after a year spent reshaping its mission. The schools curriculum integrates standard subjects with a core peace curriculum which includes conflict resolution and peer mediation. The focus at Parkway Northwest is on peaceful interaction among the students and spreading this message of peace to the community and throughout the world.

Parkway Northwest holds monthly seminars as a part of these efforts, in which outside speakers come to the school and discuss peace. The Hip Hop for Hope program is not one of these seminars. Instead, it provides the student viewpoint on violence in the world and the peaceful solutions to this violence. Hip Hop for Hope is a student created program. Students will perform original work created for the event, as well as famous works that embody the Parkway Northwest message of peace.

Parkway Northwest has a student body of approximately 300 students and is located at 7500 Germantown Avenue on the campus of New Covenant Church in Mt. Airy. The program will be held in the gymnasium on campus. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the event.
