Editor of Tikkun Magazine to speak at Together in Faith 2005! Rabbi Michael Lerner was a national leader of the anti-war movement in the 60's and chair of the Students for A Democratic Society at U.C. Berkeley. He was indicted by the Mitchell Justice Dept. as part of the Seattle 7 (where he went to teach philosophy) and was described by J. Edgar Hoover as "one of America's most dangerous criminals" for organizing anti-war demonstrations. He received a PhD in clinical psychology. He also directed a research project on the psychodynamics of American society, where he discovered the hunger of working people for a trascenden meaning in their lives. He developed the "politics of meaning" and started Tikkun magazine in 1986. Among his books: Surplus Powerlessness, Jewish Renewal, The Politics of Meaning, Spirit Matters with Cornel West: Blacks and Jews: Let the Healing Begin, and most recently, Healing Israel/Palestine. He is the current editor of Tikkun magazine and rabbi of a synagogue in San Francisco: Beyt Tikkun. He was honored by Utne Reader as one of America's 100 most significant visionaries, and receive an award from PEN-Oakland for his courage in critiquing Israeli policy.
