Students all across the country have signed a pledge to boycott American Eagle Outfitters until the brand enforces its code of conduct. The code requires the company’s contractors to respect their employees’ right to organize.
When workers at a warehouse in Canada that ships for American Eagle tried to organize for improved conditions, they faced harassment and intimidation from US union busters. I’m working with a labor union - Unite Here - to let people know about the boycott. If you’d like to sign the boycott pledge, go to http://www.americanvulture.org.
Here's how you can help:
1. Encourage your campus organizations to join in the week of action. Become a Campus Boycott Leader and participate in back-to-school boycott activities at your local American Eagle store.
2. Enter “Defeathering the Eagle” Contest – We’re looking for the best ads that mock American Eagle’s marketing and image.
3. Send the boycott pledge to your friends, colleagues and neighbors; post the news on your listserves and blog it. Utilize our Myspace and Facebook profiles.
