Notes
Greenpeace wants to support and train the next generation of environmental activists: that means you!

The Greenpeace Semester is a training program which gives students the skills they need to be active about the environmental issues we face. Experienced activists, the best in their fields, train students in a classroom setting, giving them the skills they need to design an environmental campaign and put it into action. These skills are then strengthened with hands on experience when Semester students travel to work on the most current Greenpeace campaigns, doing real environmental work.

Greenpeace’s long history of environmental activism inspires the Semester curriculum. Founded in 1971 on grassroots organizing principals of non-violent direct action, and bearing witness, Greenpeace tackles major environmental issues – from expensive, unsafe, and dirty nuclear energy to the destruction of rainforests in Indonesia. The methods honed as an organization over decades of environmental campaigning are then passed on to Semester participants.

Students participating in the spring and fall programs spend a semester in Washington, DC. The semester-long program includes about two weeks of travel to bear witness and support Greenpeace campaigns. Two shorter, five-week programs are offered during the summer. Summer students learn the basics of organizing and campaign skills, and spend one week of the program traveling on their Campaign Trip.

Tuition for the Semester is $4,200 in the spring and fall, $2,200 in the Summer. It covers all classes and classroom materials, as well as travel costs. Semester coordinators work with students to support fundraising efforts if needed.
