Description
LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANS COMMUNITY ISSUES PANEL PRESENTATION IN HONOR OF DOMETIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH AND COMING OUT DAY.

On Thursday, October 10th, Women?s Transitional Care Services (WTCS), a Lawrence-based agency that provides services to survivors of domestic violence and education to the community, is sponsoring OUT OF THE CLOSET, OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES: THE CONCEALED ISSUES OF THE LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANS, QUEER COMMUNITIES. The panel presentation is being co-sponsored by KU Queers and Allies (Q&A), a KU campus-based group that provides support, social networks, and activism to the LGBTQ community. The panel presentation and discussion, which will be held at the Lawrence Art Center, will address a range of topics that affect the LGBTQ communities. Topics discussed include: rural life and child raising, domestic and sexual violence in LGBTQ relationships, transphobia, racism, HIV/AIDS, homophobia and biphobia.

This event will give the community a chance to come out to learn about, discuss, and begin to change the less-talked-about issues within the LGBTQ communities. By looking at some of the more ?closeted? issues within the community, we can begin to see the interconnectedness of all oppressions. The evening will include presentations from six panelists throughout the community; after the presentations there will be roundtable discussions for people to begin to look at these issues more in-depth.

Please join us to begin to end all violence, all hate, and all oppressions in our communities.
