In the Fall of 2005, after Columbus Day, Congress intends to cut $7 billion (at least!) out of federal student grant and loan programs. The unmet need in this country for citizens to access college is staggering. Congress should be alleviating the unmet need. Instead, they are handing out shovels to students so that students and their families fall further into the hole of staggering debt to offset college.
