(Facilitator: Torli Krua) On June 10, 2003, President Bush ordered the evacuation of US citizens from Liberia. Among those evacuated to safety were many young US citizens and their Liberian mothers. Upon arrival in the USA, the US Department of Homeland Security decided to ban the Liberians from working because they did not arrive in the USA in 2002 when work permit and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was granted to Liberians. On August 25, 2004, the Homeland Security redesignated TPS to all Liberians in the USA but again excluded those evacuated to safety because they did not arrive in 2002. We are seeking equal treatment of all Liberians and seeking work permit for all Liberians in the USA at the time of the redesignation of TPS, August 25, 2005.Geographical Scope: International Added on 04-18-2005 Updated on 04-18-2005 |
